pipx install issues

Hi All,

I am using Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS

When I run pipx install . it produces the following message: Not installing to existing directory '/home/ulagu/.local/pipx/venvs'. Pass '--force' to force installation

I then use 'pipx install . --force' and get the following: Installing to existing directory '/home/ulagu/.local/pipx/venvs' and Error: Command '['/home/ulagu/.local/pipx/venvs/bin/python3', '-m', 'ensurepip', '--upgrade', '--default-pip']' returned non-zero exit status 1. '/usr/bin/python3 -m venv /home/ulagu/.local/pipx/venvs' failed

Do you have any suggestions on what could be causing the installation to fail?

Update:

I created a virtual environment: python -m venv fabric-env then started it: source fabric-env/bin/activate

I then run python -m pip install . This initiates the install and it still fails. Here is the error:

I'm not 100% there yet for the install. Here is what is moving progress along.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install python3.12-dev
sudo apt-get install build-essential
sudo apt-get install python3.2-pip

sudo chmod -R u+rwx /home/stan/code/fabric/fabric-env/

This allowed fabric to install. I am now getting another error when I run fabric --help - however it's progress.

This was resolved by getting pip dependencies installed and running a python environment from cd ~
