lossy encoding a 16 bit TIF file : severe artifiacts in decompressed image #660

Using the latest master branch from github, I encoded a 16 bit, 512x512 TIF file with the following command line parameters:

-b 32,32 -I

Decoded image had severe black "cloud" artifacts in image.

Attached is a screenshot of the issue: the original image is on the left, decompressed on right.

Update: switching to lossless compress shows no artifact, so I am guessing the bug lies in the 9-7 DWT transform.

Increasing number of resolution levels from 2 upwards, the artifact only appears when there are 5 resolution levels or higher. 2-4 are fine. Also, fine if lossless. So, it looks like a 9-7 DWT bug, for n >= 5.

False Alarm! Artifact is a problem with GIMP viewer, which is probably using Jasper to view jp2.
