Where do open source projects get funding from? How long do they survive and how is that related to funding?
What types of software make it as open source projects? (e.g. Lots of basic tooling that is open source but how many polished products?)
Fries and ketchup would predict that it will be much easier where the open source is the ketchup and there is a proprietary fries business (e.g. Google or Facebook sponsoring open source, Goldman Sachs backing Symphony).
Here's an example of an open source project stopping: https://community.sugarcrm.com/community/news/blog/2018/04/06/sugar-community-edition-open-source-project-ends
